About QLEWN
The Queensland Lived Experience Workforce Network (QLEWN) is a focused statewide peak body led by, with and for, the Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce (LEW) within the mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and suicide prevention sectors. QLEWN is focused on ensuring that the LEW has access to appropriate discipline-specific supervision and support, networking, and professional development opportunities. QLEWN acts as a united voice for Queensland’s LEW (including government, non-government, and private sectors) to drive focused Lived Experience-led advocacy and system reform.
QLEWN is an incorporated member-based association and is governed by a volunteer Management Committee, who govern the operations and governance development of QLEWN as an independent peak body representing, supporting, and advocating for the Queensland LEW. We have secured funding for twelve months for one paid staff member but are currently organisationally unfunded and rely on membership subscriptions and project funding for operational work.
What is an Independent-Lived Experience Consultant?
Independent means you work for yourself, you are self-employed, and you have an ABN and insurance.
Lived Experience means you identify, and your work is informed by having a Lived Experience, either personal or direct experience (also referred to as consumer) of mental health challenges, suicidality, AOD, service use, periods of healing/personal recovery, or Family/carer experience (also described as family, support or carer) of supporting someone through mental health challenges, suicidality, AOD service use, periods of healing/ personal recovery
Consultant
The focus of a consultant’s work is service improvement, with particular attention to practices, policies, and procedures that affect access and equity. This work is sometimes referred to as service advocacy and involves leadership, co-design, community engagement, networking, planning, evaluation, facilitation, and communication skills. Consumer consultants collate information and feedback from consumers about their views and experiences of the service and use this information to make recommendations for service improvement. Family caregiver consultants collate information and feedback from families and caregivers about their views and experiences of the service.
Consultant Register
A consultant register is a list of names of consultants available and interested in working. This register is for internal QLEWN use and will not be shared externally.
There are several projects coming up where QLEWN will be seeking to engage consultants to support QLEWN activities. Having a register of our Lived Experience Experts/Consultants will allow us to send out calls for tenders, EOIs, and other initiatives first before going more broadly.
Those currently employed in part-time Lived Experience Leadership roles within service providers are also encouraged to apply.
QLEWN is now calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI’s) from QLEWN members who are ready and available for Lived Experience consultancy work to go on our consultants register. To download the EOI form please click here EOI Lived Experence Consultant
